In early 2025, in partnership with Swinerton Builders, Priority Architectural Graphics successfully completed art, interpretive and directional signage for the first two phases of the new $200M India Basin Waterfront Park.

This new recreational opportunity in Bay View Hunters Park is located at 900 Innes Avenue in San Francisco at the site of a former environmentally contaminated industrial shipyard, offering scenic views and waterfront access to city residents and park visitors. The park connects Southeast and Southwest points along the San Francisco Blue-Greenway Bay Trail in a 10-acre parcel, part of a 64-acre property under remediation and development in a three-phased effort. The third Phase of park development began this spring and is expected to be completed in 2027, renovating the original India Basin Shoreline Park, a 7.5-acre site constructed in the ‘90’s.
San Francisco Recreation and Park Department originally acquired the property at 900 Innes Avenue in India Basin in 2014 and spent four years decontaminating the parcels which were polluted with hazardous petroleum hydrocarbons due to decades of marine area mismanagement. The process included collaboration and approval by multiple regulatory agencies, including San Francisco’s Regional Water Quality Control Board and the Environmental Protection Agency.

In partnership with the Trust for Public Land, the A. Philip Randolph Institute and San Francisco Foundation as well as the local Bayview community, the new park now extends the shoreline for outdoor recreation opportunities and exploring local wildlife habitat to an historically underserved population.
The park creates a “walkable shoreline” for all in a new outdoor space for the city featuring contiguous parks, shipwright’s cottage, trails and open space and new visitor programs and amenities all connected by a seamless wayfinding signage system designed, manufactured and installed by Priority. India Basin Waterfront Park features a food pavilion, makers shop, two new public piers and floating dock, ADA compliant walkways, viewing decks among other amenities. India Basin Waterfront Park is one of only a few parks in the nation to be guided by an Equitable Development Plan (EDP) developed by the community. New program initiatives that are currently being implemented include Bayview Safety Swim and Splash and Rocking the Boat youth programs, rotating vendor and workshops supporting workforce and business development at the food pavilion and an Artist in Residence program.
The mural of Lady Bayview on the deck of one of the new piers was designed by Raylene Gorum, an artist with ties to the local community:
Interpretive signage at the new park educates visitors about San Francisco’s important role in maritime operations as well as the habitats and biodiversity which the San Francisco area provides to migrating birds and other wildlife.
Company CEO, Juliana Choy Sommer notes “The southeastern waterfront of San Francisco is very near our company headquarters. To see this area transform into a destination for both visitors and residents has been so fulfilling for our team at Priority. We thank San Francisco Recreation & Parks, and the entire construction team lead by Swinerton for allowing us to be a part of such a fun project. I personally am a frequent user of this open space and could not be more thrilled by how this project turned out.”
